We remove your old switchboard or fuse box and fit a modern board with proper circuit breakers and RCDs on every circuit that needs one, so the whole house is protected against overloads and electric shock. Every circuit is correctly labelled, the work is tested and certified to current Wiring Rules, and we take the old gear and rubbish away when we are done. A straight fuse-box swap on a small home is a very different job from a large board with many circuits or a three-phase commercial system, which is why we do not publish a fixed price that would not be fair to you. An old fuse box uses ceramic or rewireable fuses that you replace or rewire by hand when they blow, and it usually has no RCDs. A modern switchboard uses circuit breakers that reset with a flick, and RCD safety switches that cut power in a fraction of a second if they detect a fault, protecting you against electric shock and fire. Modern boards also handle the load of today's appliances far better. If your home still has a fuse box, upgrading is one of the biggest safety improvements you can make.

Larger homes with many circuits, or commercial and three-phase boards, can take longer depending on the scope. Yes, your power needs to be off for part of the job while we swap the board over, but we keep the outage as short and predictable as possible. We will tell you upfront roughly how long you will be without power so you can plan around it, whether that is moving work from home or keeping the fridge shut. On most single-day residential upgrades the power is back on by the end of the day. If you have a critical load, tell us when you book and we will factor it in.
Not always, but many do, particularly homes built before 1990 that were never designed for the number of appliances a modern household runs. Older boards often lack RCDs and run short on circuit space, so adding anything new becomes difficult. That said, we will never tell you to upgrade if you do not need to. We assess what you actually have, and if your board is safe and has capacity, we will say so. A free assessment is the honest way to find out where you stand.
Often, yes. EV chargers and spa pools both draw a heavy, sustained load, and many older boards do not have the spare capacity or a free circuit to run them safely.
