A simple install near the switchboard is a very different job from one needing a long cable run or a switchboard upgrade, which is why a one-size price would not be honest. A Level 1 charger uses a standard 10-amp socket and charges slowly, usually 10 to 20km of range an hour, which is fine for topping up but slow for daily driving. A Level 2 charger runs on its own dedicated circuit and charges much faster, typically 50 to 100km of range an hour depending on your vehicle. For most Hibiscus Coast households doing a normal daily commute, a Level 2 home charger is the one worth installing, and it is what we fit most often.

EV chargers draw a heavy sustained load, and if your switchboard is undersized or does not have room for a new circuit, it needs upgrading first so the charger runs safely. We assess your board as part of the quote, so you find out before the day, not on it. If an upgrade is required we can do both jobs together, which saves you a separate visit. If your board has capacity, the install is more straightforward.
No. EV charger installation is restricted electrical work in New Zealand and must be carried out by a registered electrician. It is not a DIY or handyman job, and doing it yourself is illegal and will void your home insurance if anything goes wrong.
